I had hoped it would be a more lively book, but it was just okay. The sensation of a summer camp setting was not that exciting in reality. The historical perspective of setting it in the 50's was interesting but not compelling.

Christopher Charles Herbert Lehmann-Haupt was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on June 14, 1934. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Swarthmore College in 1956 and a master of fine arts degree in theater and dramatic criticism from Yale University School of Drama in 1959. After serving in the Army, he taught high school biology and math before show more becoming an editor for several publishing companies. He joined The New York Times on March 15, 1965, as an editor for the Sunday Book Review section, and went on to contribute book reviews to the daily Times for the next four years. He was the senior daily book critic from 1969 to 1995. He was a critic until 2000 when he started writing obituaries for The Times. He was the chief obituary writer from 2000 to 2006, and then a freelance obituarist until his retirement in 2014. He wrote several books during his lifetime including A Crooked Man, The Mad Cook of Pymatuning, and Me and DiMaggio: A Baseball Fan Goes in Search of His Gods. He taught at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, York College, Marymount Manhattan College, and the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
