An incredible tale of a world where summer only comes once every five years. Nevya is so cold, people cannot exist outside for more than a few minutes. In order to travel from one place to another, they need a Cantor or Cantrix - a person blessed with the gift of calling warmth and light with music. A person like Sira. Fresh, original tale. Marley is an author to watch out for.
I liked this story about a frozen world that must have singers who can create warmth and light through pyschic powers that are focused through their music.

It's a story of politics, betrayal, ambition, loss, love, and duty. Unfortunately there are two other books in this trilogy and they're all out of print!

Bah! Guess I'm going to have to track down used copies. What is it with libraries never seeming to have a complete series.....?
On the planet of Nevya, summer happens only once every five years and those who can provide light and warmth are called Cantrixes. They work in houses to help. Sira is a new cantrix assigned to the House of Bariken. The customs of the house of Bariken are not what she really expects and she has to try to adapt. Though not everything can be adapted to.

It's interesting but not quite me, the author shows promise and I'd look for more by her.
