This was one of my two favorite books as a child; finding it again as an adult (I couldn't remember the name) has been delightful. While it is a children's book that educates the reader about the tiny world of ants, I loved (and still do) the idea of "big bugs" as characters in a book, and not necessarily as the bad guys.
This book has nature facts incorporated in a charming narrative.

Similar to a nature documentary- some facts are harsh. The Queen has multiple husbands, a sick ant might be killed.
To say that I read this book is not actually true. My teacher in 2nd or 3rd grade read a chapter from this story to us each Friday afternoon. I often think about it, and have wondered what it was titled.
I see others have mentioned that it is out of print and it is dated. Not surprising since I listened to it 55 years ago. I am sorry that it is out of print, I would like to read it for myself.
I love ants. Loved them as a kid, liked this book.
