Twins Alice and Jack turn eighteen in August 1914; Jack joins the army, and Alice becomes a nurse in a Red Cross hospital, and the book follows their lives during the war until 1917. As this is a fairly short YA novel, the story keeps moving fast, but is enjoyable to read nonetheless. ( )
