About my libraryMy library consists largely of books about China--art history, literature, and history. Other areas of interest are Korean art, the history of exotics (e.g., camphor, rhinoceros horn, incense, etc), Islamic art and some theology. I have a large number of Chinese books not yet entered yet here and, as for those already entered, one day I'll get around to correcting the input errors.

Thanks for the comment. I'm fascinated by things Chinese, and your list of translated Chinese literature, history, and culture is a wonderful resource. Thanks for sharing it!
Hi Liao!

I had a chance to stop by that Classics Bookstore and you were right. They had a much greater selection of 'good' literature. Although some of it is still way over my head, I'm still learning Chinese, I purchased a few books on Chinese poetry and some short stories. They do have some nice collections or series by many authors. I purchased some basic ones (杜甫诗选,杜牧诗选,苏轼诗... and other selected short stories and such.

Only had time to visit Xi Tang on Sunday, and it rained all day. But I had a good time (virtually no tourists because of the rain).

In the end, I had to purchase an extra suitcase tthe airport because I had overloaded my large suitcase and it exceeded by far the weight regulations. But it was worthwhile.

Now to wait for the chance to go back!
Thanks for the comments. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I'll just go and wonder around Fuzhou street looking for books.

I am visiting Hangzhou and then Xitang on the weekend.
I don't know if you'll see this within the next few days. I'm going to Shanghai early next week (just for a week, unfortunately I can't stay longer).

On the weekend I'm going to Hangzhou. But are there other unusual things I should see in Shanghai? I've been there several times so I've visited all the better known places.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Hi liao! Thanks for the comment on my review of Eco's Rose. Evidently it sparked a lot of interest, because someone else also wrote me to explain the rose allusion! This other person says that yes, the title was indeed an allusion to Romeo and Juliet. So I shared your Wiki quote with them. I think Eco is one of those writers who intentionally make their allusions many-faceted and ambiguous, darn him :-P. I do think the Wiki explanation makes a lot of sense. Guess I will just have to learn Latin, eh?

Hae you read Foucault's Pendulum? I picked it up at a library sale this weekend.
Hi Liao, I've been to Shanghai any times but was not aware of that bookstore on ancient classics (上海古籍书店). I assume that's one that you'd recommend- although I always end up going to that large booksore Book City.
Anything special you'd suggest I look for there.
Thanks.
Hi Liao - I got my copy of 'The Jewel Trader of Pegu' yesterday. I'll be interested in reading your review.
Liao, there is a new member in Ancient China Group who is interested in Bronze. If you have any thoughts, I hope you can enter a comment. Thefogies are alive and well, but will not be able to post until October.
Thanks for putting your collection online. I've recently become interested in the Zhou, and I'm sure I'll find many useful things in there.
