Hey all,
I've been on this site a few years, but this is my first time in a 75 book challenge group. Not sure if I'll make it to 75, but it's always worth it to aim high. :)
Running List
1. A Thread of Grace
2. Soon I Will Be Invincible
3. The Blind Side

Hello, and welcome to the group!

Hi Ash, and welcome to the madness that is the 75verse. I hope you have lots of fun here, like the other inmates in this asylum do.

Glad to see you joining us, Ash!

Thanks for the welcome. I have a list of books for January (mostly ones I intended to read in 2010 but didn't), but I'm sure the list will change. In no particular order:
A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell
Dreamers of the Day by Mary Doria Russell
Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris
Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris
The Big Short by Michael Lewis
Invader Summer by Hideyuki Kikuchi
Bhagavad Gita

Some nice reading there! Good luck with reaching your goal of reading them in January :)

Welcome to the group. I see that we will both be reading A thread of grace in January. Like you I've had it on my tbr pile all this year so am pleased to be finally getting to it.

Thanks, avatiakh. I see a couple of people are reading A Thread of Grace for the TIOLI #1 which is awesome. Anything to get more people reading MDR's books is a good thing.

And I finished my first book of the year: A Thread of Grace.
Intense and heartbreaking, just like I'd expect from a Mary Doria Russell book.
Definitely need to read something lighter and more frivolous now.

#11: Mary Doria Russell is one of my LT discoveries. The first books of hers I ever read, The Sparrow, is one of my all-time favorites. I believe I have read all of her books to date now.
Terrific start to your reading year, Ash!

Stasia, The Sparrow is also one of my all-time favorites. I discovered it last year and have been working through Russell's other works ever since. I'm excited to read her new one coming out in May--a murder mystery involving Doc Holliday if I remember correctly.

I did not realize MDR had a new book coming out this year. Thanks for the heads up, Ash!

Finished Soon I Will Be Invincible for the Readathon. My thoughts are mostly posted in that thread. The short version: had potential but got bogged down in too much repetition and exposition dumping. It felt like the author was more concerned with world-building than actually telling a story.
Full Review Here.

Just followed you here from the What Are You Reading - Sci-Fi/Fantasy thread, so I look forward to seeing what you read this year :)

#15: Sounds like I can safely skip that one. I do hope your next read is better for you, Ash!

Stasia, mercifully my next read (started during the readathon) was much better.
I'm a huge fan of football and fan of Michael Lewis's writing. I had never seen the movie adaptation of the Blind Side but now I'm curious. I love how it wasn't just the story of one kid rising against the odds, but about the forces that came into play both in the football world and the world of Memphis Tennessee that got Michael Oher out of Hurt Village and into the NFL.
Next up: I have no idea. I'm still picking at Carpe Jugulum, but I may also attack one of my other challenge books. Being iced in for the fourth day in a row, I have plenty of time to read.

I enjoyed the movie version of The Blind Side. Sounds like I need to get hold of the book!
