Cinder is a mechanic and a cyborg, living in a cyberpunk version Beijing. There's a lot going on here - a deadly plague, romance, interplanetary political intrigue, and all kinds of secrets - and somehow it all works, loosely draped around the general Cinderella framework. There's a ball, a lost shoe (well, foot), a wicked stepmother, a handsome prince. And it's just really well done. I very much enjoyed this and look forward to the rest of the series. ( ) {my thoughts} - This book is about a young girl named {linh cinder}. She is a {cyborg/human}. She has feelings and thoughts just like humans do however she is classified as being less then human as being nothing but someone else’s property. She has a run in with {prince kai} and he and her begin to get to know each other. Eventually he gets up the nerve to ask her out on a date. However, she doesn’t tell him she is a {cyborg}. The book goes through her trial and error of trying to accept herself, of wanting him to understand and accept her for who she is and of wanting to run away and forget about everything she has ever known. She has a lot of spunk, a lot of determination and can be rather emotional. It’s a really nice book that is well written with a different take on the whole {cinderella fairy-tale stories}. If you enjoy reading different takes on {fairy-tales} then I am certain you will enjoy this book. {reason for reading} - I like reading the different takes individuals have on {fairy-tales} so this book seemed Ideal for me. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading the next one in the series. This is one of those series I read in high school (?) and remember loving so much. The way the story rewrites the Cinderella narrative in a creative and interesting way. Rereading the series I was able to catch little parts and pieces of foreshadowing I never caught onto before and it made the read more meaningful to me. I was able to be interested in other characters other than just Cinder and Kai (while they still are important) during the reread. In all honesty, I think I like Cinder in the other books better than I like her in this book, but I think that comes from knowing how she develops. In the grande scheme of things I don’t think this is my favorite of the series, but I do think that this story specifically still holds a special place in my heart and I really loved rereading it. The first time I sat down to read this book, I stopped a few chapters in and put it away. The plot seemed too obvious and the characters too flat. I picked it back up a few weeks later and enjoyed it much more. It's still a pretty simple book and the supposed plot twist was obvious from miles away; the characters don't have much of an arc and the love story is pretty bland, but despite all that it was an entertaining read. If you're looking for something deep and thought provoking, this isn't your book. But if you'd like something that's fun and a quick, easy read, this is a good choice. I haven't read any adaptations that I can remember at the moment, but even if I did, this would be the best one. All I can say is-Wow. Every element of the classic story was there and even though I could see what was going to happen, it was delivered so well that I didn't care. Some would say that the ending was a cliffhanger. Being that the series is continuing, I feel more like it was 'chapter' to the story and didn't feel like a cliffhanger (which you know I hate with the heat of 1000 suns). I purchased the 2nd ebook in the series, [b:Scarlet|13206760|Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)|Marissa Meyer|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1342485529s/13206760.jpg|18390691], along with the audiobook version, before I was even halfway done with this one. I highly recommend this series, even if sci-fi is not your normal genre, I am labeling it as scifi, but it didn't (IMO) 'read' like scifi. Great book and I can't wait for more from Ms. Meyer. no reviews | add a review
