Short biography: There was never any doubt that Carrie Antilla would have a creative career. As a two-year-old, she imagined dinosaurs on the lawn. By six it was witches in the bedroom closet. Soon she was designing elaborate paper-doll wardrobes and writing stories about Teddy the Bear. Eventually she graduated to short horror stories and oil paints. She was working as an artist and a part-time librarian when she "discovered" her first romance novel and thought, "Hey, I can write one of these!" So she did.

Carrie Alexander is now the author of several books for various Harlequin lines, with many more crowding her imagination, demanding to be written. She has been a RITA and Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice finalist, but finds her greatest reward in becoming friends with her readers, even if it's only for the length of a book.

Carrie lives in the upper peninsula of Michigan, where the long winters still don't give her enough time to significantly reduce her to-be-read mountains of books. When she's not reading or writing (which is rare), she is painting and decorating her own or her friends' houses, watching football, and shoveling snow. North Country Man by Carrie Alexander

Heroine Claire is hoping to acquire the Bay House Bed and Breakfast for the company she works for, Bel Vista Hotels. Hero Noah lives like a hermit in his backwoods cabin tending to injured animals and just wants to be left alone. This enjoyable and entertaining romance is set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and featured a memorable cast of characters (including those at the B and B) that really came to life. The bear cub, Scrap, was adorable, too, in this lively, cute, and fun story.

Black Velvet (Harlequin Temptation, No 689) by Carrie Alexander

I really enjoyed the first half of the book, but at some point in the second half, the story sort of...unraveled. It almost seemed as though pieces were written out of order or even by different authors and then inexpertly patched together after the fact. The characters said and did things that didn't logically follow what they'd said and done earlier, and that made for a rather disconcerting read.

That is until they win the grand prize of a romantic getaway and realize that it will be impossible for them to keep their hands off each other. Can Rory and Tucker get past their own hangups to be together?

Rory is an exceedingly relatable heroine with her quiet demeanor and strong work ethic. Tucker is a charming "happy-go-lucky" show more sort of hero who tries extra hard to conceal his emotions, but fails when it comes to Rory.

Rory and Tucker's chemistry is off the charts. In fact, this is one of the more sexually explicit installments in the Harlequin Blaze imprint.

Overall, a quick, light read recommended for lovers of sweet romances with little to no angst and some seriously sexy times. show less

A Town Called Christmas (Harlequin Superromance) by Carrie Alexander

Fairly middle-of-the-road series romance from Harlequin. Nice characterizations, and nice descriptions/settings, but (as with many series romances) the relationship between the primary couple happened way too fast to be believable. On the other hand, there didn't seem to be quite as much angst on both their parts, as there often is in this type of novel. A pleasant bit of holiday fluff, but nothing more.
