After Quentin is injured in a kidnapping, he heads for "the Barn", an exclusive BDSM club in the Alaskan wilderness that he and his husband co-own with some good friends, to recover. And to hide from the world. Also to ask for a divorce. He can't cope with the way his husband, and the only man who makes him want to be vulnerable, looks at him these days. He can't bear to see pity in Frost's eyes. Smoke-jumper Frost Kelly wants his husband back. He knows he'll take Q any way he can get him. show more He doesn't care if Q is in a wheelchair, or if he always has to use arm crutches to walk. He just wants them to be okay again. So, he takes time off work, even though it's fire season, and goes to the Barn to coax Q into living his life. The two of them have never lost their fire for each other, but they have to work through a lot of guilt and fear and then deal with Frost going back to a dangerous job, before they might even see if they can make it work. Will they be able to find a new way forward or will they be stuck in the past?
I will begin by saying that I did like the book, but...The Barn, the club and resort, just didn't seem like the same place. Frost and Q’s money might have had something to do with it, but I liked the atmosphere of the first book much more. Also, I liked how some of the guests were involved in the storyline of the first book. That really worked well for me, but this book had a much lighter BDSM theme.
I believe that may have been partly the result of Frost and Q learning to adapt after Q’s kidnapping and having been shot. Q became a special character to me...one that I could really care about. The authors did a great job of presenting Q's injuries and feelings head-on and didn't just skate around them, while realizing that anyone in the position that Frost & Q found themselves was going to take a lot of patience and time. Frost was dealing with some major guilt...but he just wanted his "boy" back. Frost and Q were never going to be the same dynamic that they were before, but with patience they could and were going to become so much more.
In the first book we met some the guests, but in this book, we're introduced to the some of the club's owners. We now have Boone and Tug, along with Frost and Q. I hope Boone and Tug's story is going to be next. It will be interesting and different with two Doms that appear to both also to be tops. Different dynamic indeed.
I also wish that we had had a little more closure, but it won't stop me from picking up book #3. It was a great story with two wonderful, sweet, warm characters...and a great big, beautiful dog. show less

Short, hot, and so funny it made me laugh, this is a story of two outcast werewolves and one lonely were-possum, erm, I mean vampire. I loved Kayne and Beck's jokes about the seemingly dead man they find in and abandoned house. Their joking became even funnier when it turns out the guy isn’t a were-possum at all, but a thirsty vampire called Frank. And he heard everything! Thank God he has a sense of humor. The proposal he has for them is tempting and very simple. He will feed them (i.e., show more pay for their groceries), if they feed him.
If you like paranormal stories that make you laugh, if you enjoy an encounter between werewolves and vampires that isn’t about fighting, well, not war-like fighting, and if you’re looking for a fun, hot story that will make you smile, give this one a try. show less

"Super Juicy" inscribed on a T-shirt may mean one thing to a human, but to a vampire? It's like an invitation to dinner on top of the underlying sexual innuendo. Made me smile from the start and the way the story is written, slightly tongue-in-cheek, and with a lot of humor, made me laugh. The fact that it's super-hot on top only made it better. To continue the pun: this short story is "quite the little morsel" in more than one respect.
Stryker is not exactly the most serious vampire I've show more ever read about. He's out for some fun, and Halloween is ideal. As he says, "so many people, so much hot blood running through miles and miles of veins". Very true! But when he runs into Buck, the waiter wearing the above-mentioned T-shirt, he is tempted into more. I loved his journey of discovery as he discovers the truth about Buck.
Buck is a young waiter, definitely good at flirting, and attracted to Stryker from the moment he sets eyes on him. He has a bit of a secret himself, and when they meet up for some nekkid fun, the heat is definitely on.
If you like vampires who are funny rather than horror-like, if you enjoy stories with a slight surprise, and f you're looking for a short, hot read, I can recommend this book. show less

Demon and demon hunter, now there's a pairing of unexpected opposites attracting. While it's hard to imagine it could ever work, after all, they're natural enemies, the idea of finding out how Damon, the hunter, and Alisdair, the demon, might pull it off had me wanting to read this short story and looking forward to the details. And I have to say, for it being only fourteen pages long, it packs a punch!
First, we have Damon. He isn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill average demon hunter, if show more there even is such a thing. From the first encounter with his boss, who reprimands him for sleeping with the demons he hunts "in the line of duty". I was fascinated with the guy. I was also very clear this is a humorous story, and the boss's fear that, one day, Damon would not be able to send the hunted demon to hell, might be warranted. Needless to say this is exactly what this story is about.
Second, along comes Alasdair, an ancient and very experienced demon who, unsurprisingly, is a little fed up with his "job" and wants his humanity back. All he needs is for Damon to perform some sex magick. How hard could that be? Well, as it turns out, plenty hard (pun intended), and as the two get going, among much joking and difficulty to stay on-task, the sparks really do fly!
If you like lots of humor with your serving of demonic sexiness, if you enjoy reading about men and demos finding a way to make a relationship work, and if you're looking for a read that is as hot as it is funny, then you will probably enjoy this short story. I'm still chuckling!
