I read this book because someone left it behind in a vacation cottage we rented and I couldn't put it down, despite it not directly applying to my stage of life or that of my little one. Author Mel Levine clearly has a tremendous degree of experience and passion in this area of 20-somethings/"start-up" adults, but more than that page after page is filled with insights, thoughts, examples, and prescriptions, almost to the nth degree. The book wowed me in its completeness on the topic. show more Well-conceived, well-organized, well-written. Would recommend as a must-read if you have teen-aged children or 20-something children that are having a hard time getting started as adults. show less
So many parents could really benefit from reading this book in an effort to understand a child struggling in school. Too bad the author is involved in the molestation allegations; hope they don't diminish the impact of his impressive and insightful research.
The Myth of Laziness by Mel Levine is a thought provoking book. It has a collection of stories about children with issues involving productivity. There are eight basic issues that a child or adult could have and this book lists those issues. Following that section it contains helpful advice and hints on things necessary to build a better brain as it were. Dr. Levine states that there is no such thing as laziness, hence the title of the book, and all people have a yen to produce and be show more productive.

I only wish that I had found this book earlier on in my life.
