There are multiple stories about dogs that are all twists on folktales. The dogs are all the main characters but there are cats within the story as well as 2 cats making commentary throughout the whole book. These cats make comical and sarcastic comments about the dogs and their stories and tell their own story at the end to show how gullible dogs are. I like the play on cats vs. dogs and it's done in a funny way with a story in a story.
I really enjoyed this book. I love fairy tales and so do young readers. The author is brilliant in her dog perspective on very popular fairy tales. She did a great job or transforming a regular fairy tale into one that is being told by a cat. Little Red Riding Hound as opposed to Little Red Riding Hood, is my favorite of them all. Instead of running into a wolf, little red riding hound runs into an evil cat. The stories were also very comical and included little side notes in which the two show more cats narrating are arguing about the story. This book was a great book to read. It can also be used in the classroom to in-cooperate fairy tales and introduce them to young readers. show less
Jennifer Rae does a great job with this book. She puts a very funny and witty twist to many classic fairytale stories that we all know and love. The stories are being told in the point of view of dogs and includes some classics like, Little Red Riding Hood which is called Little Red Riding Hound, and Cinderella who is called Cindersmelly. This book is sure to have kids laughing at the goofiness of the dogs and the nosy cats in this story.
