An armchair venture into the Spencer House. The pictures and descriptions of the items to be sold very interesting. The provenance of every piece was detailed. A little bit of history was given too.
Best-selling author and screenwriter, film director and producer, Michael Crichton is renowned for his scientific thrillers such as The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park, and for creating the television series ER. Crichton is also acknowledged as a leading authority on the American artist Jasper Johns and as an important collector of 20th Century art.

The Collection was on public exhibition for the first time in New York. Christie’s offered Works from the Collection of Michael Crichton on show more 11 and 12 May 2010. As well as paintings by Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha and Andy Warhol, Christie's showcased an extraordinary grouping of works by Jasper Johns, including one of the most famous icons of 20th Century art, Jasper Johns’ Flag (Estimate: $10,000,000 - 15,000,000. Sold for 28,640,000). show less
I met Tony Woollett on a number of occasions; he was a great gentleman, an accomplished painter and a very fine modeller. Towards the end of his life, he put many of his scratch-built 1930s aircraft up for sale, and this is the Christie's catalogue from that sale. (That Christie's accepted his models for sale shows the standard that he achieved.)
Wonderful catalog of great works - note that the prices for these items has increased over the last five years. It's always interesting to see the trends mapped out - what affects prices - presently the Japanese and Russians are buying art at outrageous prices. The Russians are buying their treasures back which I truly support and the Japanese are once again buying voraciously. You may recall that they bought at the height of the market and then suffered when they wanted to sell.
