- Maria Lang was the pen name of Dagmar Lange, one of Sweden's most popular and prolific crime fiction novelists. She's sometimes called Sweden's Agatha Christie. Lang produced a book per year for more than 40 years, most of them featuring detective inspector Christer Wijk, and set many of them in a fictional Swedish provincial town called Skoga -- based on her own hometown of Nora. Six of her early novels were adapted into films in 2013 and released internationally under the collective English title "Crimes of Passion."

This Swedish murder mystery definitely shows its age, which is a plus and a minus. It was written in the 1950's and is very much in the Agatha Christie vein -- country house, limited number of characters, clever detective, charming girl narrator. On the plus side, this gives it a certain charm and a certain archaeological value for devoted mystery fanatics (interestingly, the one way in which it is NOT like Agatha is sex: in Sweden in the 1950's, it happened). On the minus side, it has a show more stilted style and generally one dimensional characters. I didn't enjoy it as much as the two other Maria Lang novels I have read, and I didn't enjoy any of them as much as the excellent Swedish TV series based on the books, "Crimes of Passion". That's set in the 1950's, but made just a few years ago. For those who do want to read this book, you can get it on Google Play -- Amazon for some reason has been showing it as unavailable for quite a while. show less
Ytterligare en trivsam 50-talsdeckare av Maria Lang. Den här utspelar sig på Drottningholmsteatern. Deckargåtan är inte den allra bästa, men helt OK. Behållningen är mer personerna, miljöerna och stämningen. Betyg 3,5.
En trivsam deckare med mycket 50-talskänsla. Utspelar sig till stor del på Hum B - Humanistiska biblioteket i en byggnad vid Stureplan. Kärlekspar spelar en stor roll, som i många andra Maria Lang-deckare.
