What a wonderful chance to be welcomed through the doors of some of the most beautiful Victorian wooden buildings in the world, which happen to be private houses on the hills of San Francisco. Many of these were rescued and renovated in the 1970s by middle class people with great whimsy and feel for the period. Leafing through this book and imagining walking through the beautiful entries of these houses cheers me up.
I'm such a bad gardener, partly because I don't know what I want. After reading this book from cover to cover and wishing and hoping over the pictures, I went back and looked at where I had placed markers. I found a theme. I am hopeful.

It's always good to read a book by someone excited about their topic.
