This is a darling little book, especially if you like Victoriana, as I do. It's not really a lot of reading, but very entertaining. Kids love to see the pictures change, too.
This is a reproduction of a movable book, originally published (and illustrated) by Ernest Nister, a Bavarian children's book artist who specialized in movable books.

But this will not be surrendered to the not-so-tender mercies of any children!
This little book does not have the best paper-engineering, care must be taken to work the tabs gently to keep the pop-ups working correctly. The illustrations are sweetly sentimental and Victorian verse accompanies the simple pop-ups. My favorite pop-up is the spread that rocks a sleeping baby in a basket.

A reproduction of a popular Victorian revolving picture book, "In Wonderland" from 1895, these whimsical rhyming books are very compelling. The 6-slat revolving circular movables are very well done, my favorite is the picture that shows a flock of sheep, turn the "magic window" and watch the sheep dog appear. Lovers of Victoriana will surely love this book.
