Lo so, dovrei sentirmi un po' in colpa ma se non avessi saltato un certo numero di parti in cui Tolstoj scrive un trattato di storia e filosofia della storia, anziché un romanzo... non sarei mai arrivata alla fine. I kept stumbling over the most breathtaking quotes from this book and decided to buy it, even though I didn't really know what the quotes meant in the context of this story, or these letters. However, after just the introduction and explanation of what the title meant, I was hooked. The sorrow of unrequited love and as a writer to not being allowed to write about the thing that hurts the most. The sincerity in the craft of writing letters and how horribly real it all is. As a writer myself, show more these letters reminded me of why i fell in love with writing in the first place.

I was expecting more autobiography out of Bowstring, something a bit more personal. Instead the book displays an artful, poignant, and reflective collection of literary theory and criticism that is dense and compelling. Shlovsky is essentially arguing for the particular, contextual, and how art speaks from a consciousness that is shaped and not simply a copy of a previous historical epoch.

A mix of really fantastic articles and others that might be fantastic for those who have some knowledge about inner-circle artistic debates of the time and place.
