Beginning with tiny butterfly eggs and ending with the character traits of a full-grown specimen, this book presents the facts of life for the delicate fliers in child friendly language. The text follows the metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly and uses bright photos to chronicle every step. Cartoony illustrations accompany the photographs, delivering quick trivia alongside the light-hearted drawings. A simple glossary and website conclude the book and direct the child in pursuit of show more more butterfly knowledge.

Butterflies are a perennial favorite with adults and children alike. They are a quick wink of beauty in the day. Seeing a butterfly fly generally lightens my day for a moment. This book focuses on the beauty and importance of the insect in all of its incarnations - even the creeping caterpillar is honored and hailed as important. A competent beginning reader story that should be attractive to early readers.

I would use the book Volcanoes, by Stephanie Turnball, as a guided reading book to see how much information my students could recall without memorizing the information. This is a good comprehension book to test children on because there are sections of the book that are sequencing, cause and effect, characteristic events, and descriptive attributes. Students reading this guided reading book will be able to learn cool facts about volcanoes, also! This would be a great guided reading book to show more test children on for comprehending science texts. show less
This book is a good accompanient to third grade scuence unit. It is informative, using grade appropriate language and providig beautiful photos and illustrations.
This book would be a good read to first or second graders. This story allows you to take a tour around your amazing body and find out what your heart and lungs do, how you use your five senses and where food goes after you eat. This book covers lots of different body functions.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is amazing to me how our bodies function. The words were simple to understand and the pictures were very informative and colorful. The book also has a glossary of body words and a show more website to visit to learn more about the body.
As an extension idea we would draw various parts of the body. As an example, I would have a child draw a picture of the heart and next to it telling the functions of the heart. We would do this for all the major parts of the body. This would be a great way to get a visual of our body parts and what exactly happens to keep us alive.
