A Mistletoe Mismatch by Sally Britton is a Christmas Regency romance. One thing that’s a must for me when I’m reading a Christmas-themed novel or novella is that they put me in the Christmas spirit, and A Mistletoe Mismatch definitely did just that!
The romantic troupe is a bit of a blend between second chance romance and enemies to lovers. Jessica and Ellis are childhood friends that are currently on bad terms because of past rejection. This created an intriguing dynamic between the two show more with Jess pranking Ellis for revenge. I will admit, Jess’s childish pranks put me off at first, but I grew to love her headstrong, contrary personality even as she learned to forgive and move forward with courage. And Ellis (one of my favorite names!) is so incredibly patient and kind, it was impossible not to fall for him immediately, despite his penchant for scowling. His persistence in repairing his friendship with Jessica only increased his swoon-worthiness. Together, they are so entertaining with their witty banter and hesitant flirtations.
I love Regency-era Christmas with all the traditions and extra days to celebrate. It was interesting to discover how many superstitions they had associated with Christmas. I never would have guessed! And the making and hiding of mistletoe balls were just plain fun--especially when elderly, match-making aunts are involved. There’s nothing like the magic of Christmas to spur a little romance.
Overall, I loved this story. It was light-hearted, fun, festive and a perfect read for the holiday season. show less

“Life has a way of surprising us, and sometimes, the most unexpected journeys lead to the most extraordinary adventures.”
Sally Britton’s Inglewood series is one of my all time favorites. Returning to the series that rekindled my love of Regency romance was like returning to see dear old friends. I was highly anticipating this book and wow, did she deliver. It had all the freshness of an exciting, new series combined with the nostalgia of seeing beloved characters and places show more again.
Caroline Clapham is a talented, budding artist awaiting an extraordinary opportunity to stay with the Countess of Inglewood for the summer and hone her talent. Leaving her beloved family is difficult, but she can’t wait to spread her wings and push her creative limits. Inglewood is everything she dreamed of and more, that is until a handsome man crashes through the bushes where she’s sketching. Little does she realize how that fateful meeting will change her plans.
Edward Everly feels trapped. He wants to travel the world, exploring different places and cultures. Unfortunately, his parents’ plans are for him to marry his childhood friend and take over the responsibility of the estate. But, his friend is in love with someone else and Edward’s not ready to marry. When he meets the beautiful stranger sketching on the beach, he’s immediately intrigued. At their next meeting, Caroline agrees to a pretend courtship to assist both him and his friend out of their difficult predicament. The more time he spends with her though, the more he wants the courtship to be real. Will he have the courage to defy expectations?
I adored this book! Edward and Caroline are a beautiful continuation of the Inglewood series legacy. Everything about their relationship was pure perfection starting with their darling meet cute. I loved Edward’s nickname for Caroline, their clever banter, & gentle teasing. I loved how he drew dragons on teacups and sketched elephant ears on her mice. I admired how supportive he was of her talent.
It was so fun seeing Caroline all grown up. She was so adorable in Reforming Lord Neil and now she’s turned into an amazing, talented, captivating young woman. I appreciated her desire to not let anything get in the way of her goals, yet all she wants is Edward. Theirs is a beautiful love story with plenty of twists and turns on the way to happily ever after.
I LOVED seeing Lord Neil again. Every time he appeared in the story I was vividly reminded of why he’s a favorite hero. The special relationship he has with his stepdaughter Caroline is so endearing. His gift to her and letter of encouragement made me love him even more. It was an absolute joy seeing so many favorite characters again and I can’t wait for more stories!
Though I’ve gone on and on about the Inglewood series, just know this book can definitely be read as a standalone. I guarantee it’ll make you want to go back and read the original series. It’s a delightful, clean, historical romance I can’t recommend highly enough! It’s honestly one of my favorites of Sally’s books. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author, but also purchased a copy through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. show less

AHHH! Enemies to lovers at its best! I love Sally Britton’s books & listening to A Bachelor’s Lessons in Love took this favorite read to a whole new level. I enjoyed revisiting these two endearing antagonists who must work together to help make a young woman’s foray into society successful. The banter was top notch & I enjoyed the complexities which made these characters both lovable & sympathetic.
Colonel Edward Halstead’s quiet life is upended when he learns he’s a new guardian. show more Picturing a small child, he’s surprised when a grown woman arrives with her Aunt Felicity in tow. Used to having his orders obeyed, he’s both amused & annoyed at Felicity’s boldness in advocating for her niece & it seems purposefully misunderstanding his motives. But, as they work together for Daphne’s societal debut, they find new appreciation, respect, & love.
Felicity Price has sacrificed a lot raising her niece alongside her brother. When he dies, she finds herself at a loss. Determined to be at her niece’s side as she navigates society & the marriage mart, she decides to make herself indispensable to the confirmed bachelor who’s now her guardian.
I loved Felicity & Edward! Both have secrets which shape how they treat Daphne. As the mystery of Edward’s past is revealed, it’s easy to understand why he’s so protective. Felicity has her own past sorrows & as she shares her feelings with Edward, she finds a compassionate champion in the blunt former military officer. I enjoyed their delightful verbal sparring & the depth of their characters.
This was such an enjoyable Regency with so many layers to peel back. I enjoyed Daphne as well & how she learns to navigate the ton all while humoring both her guardians. It turns out she’s more on their side than they realize.
The audiobook is fantastic! The narrator did a brilliant job bringing these characters to life. Her rich alto voice made both male & female characters enjoyable to listen to.
Highly recommend this fabulous book & especially the audiobook. I received an advanced listener’s copy from the author with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own & provided voluntarily. show less
