copyright 1930, The World's Great Adventure by Francis Trevelyan Miller. I have the original copy of the book and have read through it once, enjoyed it immensely. Mr. Miller writes with eloquence and is far more informative than i have found modern authors to be. He covers as the title states 1000 years of history in regards to the exploration of the poles. Ever page is as interesting as the one before and after it. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an introduction to the show more history of the poles. Also, the book is filled with incredible pictures and drawings, you will not be disappointed. show less
Volume 1 (of 2) with over 1200 illustrations covers the first 5000 years up to the 1890's. The first several chapters deal with all the myths of the past that have anything to do with flying, Most of the illustrations are works of art showing gods, winged chariots, Pegasus and the like. The proposals of da Vinci and early dreamers are all illustrated here. The 17th through 19th centuries cover the first attempts at ballooning and the Montgolfier's flinghts, and glider attempts are documented show more in newspaper illustrations.. show less
Written in 1911, a commemorative volume on the 50th anniversary of the Civil War, this volume covers the period where Gen'l. Grant fought a campaign against Lee and won the war for the North. Filled with contemporary photos, some maps, and excellent commentary on the period.
A gift from Felix Rossi, Oct. 13, 1961. Once I devoured these five volumes, pushed my mind into the pictures, to be there. Stupid kid.
