Normally I don't like thrillers of any kind, but I really like the way this was written. The setting and atmosphere set up with each story really just places you in the correct mental state for the story itself. Great endings, even greater dialogue. It's a wonderful book and I definitely reccomend it to anyone who's looking to sink their teeth into a great thriller. Even if you don't like thrillers, like myself normally!
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Very interesting read. The short stories are unique to the typical short stories in that these centre around a character's psyche - which is very much my preference when it comes to any story. The inner thoughts of the character sound like their your own, yet this vividness is achieved in a very simple and digestable way. The English translation is also very impressive - so much so that I forget that it is supposed to originally be Italian! Overall, a very valuable collection of show more unforgettable short stories. show less
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Just finished reading the English Translation of this book. First published in 1902 as Delitto Ideale. Mind Games a collection of short stories that take place in Italy It is truly a wonderful journey through the crossroads and emotions that all of us go through during our lives. Mr. Capuana takes several looks at how we choose and decide the fate of our decisions and creates vivid short stories that seem like complete novel. Through the collection of 14 stories one travels the countryside show more of Italy and the streets of Rome while the numerous letters i.e. chapters take us on every emotion possible. From Love to Hate and perception and back again. show less
Il tempo pesa un po' sul linguaggio di Capuana, ma questa raccolta di brevi novelle è fresca e variegata: novelle dal retrogusto amaro, storie di fantasmi, brevissime commedie degli equivoci, storielle di vita quotidiana.
