Raised on television and video games, he began to notice in the mid-80s that the popular culture so familiar to him was infused with religious iconography and meaning. He is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Religion and Education at Boston College. He is a frequent contributor to National Public Radio and PBS, and is in high demand nationally as a speaker.
