An interesting idea, though the prose seemed very stilted (I don't know whether this is merely a reflection on the translation or derives directly from the original French).
The novel concerns the investigation into the death of of a young aspiring academic who has been conducting a private research project. The police investigation uncovers the fact that the murdered man's father had himself been murdered during a riot in Paris in 1961 when passions about Algerian independence were at their show more peak. Surely this cannot be mere coincidence!
The investigation delves deeply into allegations of police brutality and bigotry, and the plot is tightly drawn. Sadly, though, the prose is often impenetrable and it was with a great feeling of relief that i finally reached the end.. show less

I do not like short stories, but these clips had surprise endings. Well written.

Je n'aimes pas trop les histoires courtes, mais ces brefs récits ont tous des fins étonnants. Bien écrit.
