Having spent my first 21 years in London and its suburbs, London Transport holds a special place in my heart. The rail system was second to none, and although I've not travelled on too many other such railways around the world, I still think that London's is the best, with a history into the bargain, such as is related here
Appendix 1 by A.W.McCall (pages 89-96) provides a fascinating overview of London's tram and trolleybus tickets.
