Nanette , a temperamental P-39 Airacobra, was a Gopher squadron plane flying against the Japanese in New Guinea. To Park, she was a `sexy machine, and rotten.' Together they flew countless wartime missions, so vividly described here that the reader sighs with relief when Nanette and her pilot return safely,''
This is worth keeping for the stunning photographs, even though many are outdated. The book also covers some areas outside of Washington, DC, in northern Virginia and Maryland. Many of my favorite haunts are pictured.
book spans the globe to trace the colorful history of American, British, French, German, Japanese, and Soviet fighter planes and their pilots--men of skill and courage from Sopwith Camels to F/A-18 Hornets
A sumptuous collection of the Smithsonian Institution's most important and interesting pieces. A coffee-table style book, at over 450 pages it probably covers a fraction of a percent of the great museum's collections.
