In addition to Noah's Ark, I also have an affinity for picture books about animal families. McNaught's book stands out for its full-color, realistic illustrations and the fun facts given for each type of animal baby. C loves learning about how different animal babies are from us and giggles often as we read together.
500 Words to Grow On is a classic among children's books. There are other beginning vocabulary books for children such as Richard Scarry's books, but for the size and the artwork, this is among the best.

The pictures are detailed enough that one can go beyond the presented vocabulary to talk about other vocabulary. In the center of the book is a two-page spread of "Country Word," a beautiful piece of nostalgic artwork that draws the reader into it. The vocabulary represents many words that show more children find themselves surrounded by. show less
My first introduction to Oz. Made me rather partial to the Shaggy Man. A clever abridgement, carrying much of the story in the pictures.
Nonfiction; I was immediately attracted to this book because it talks about different types of trucks and my fiance is a truck driver. When I read the book however I found it a bit confusing at times. Not all of the descriptions match the pictures shown. For example, it used the term "backhoe" on one page but did not show a picture of what a backhoe looked like. I think it would have been better had the author/illustrator labeled the parts of the trucks and labeled each picture.
The main show more point of this book is that there are various types of trucks with various uses. Students should read it to gain information about the many different types of trucks in the world. show less
