Interesting and lush, this is a good watch but often I found my attention drifting or noticing more of the call outs than seeing the story unfold so I had to deduct some stars for that.
Set 30 years after the original and in the same world extrapolated from the original this features a collapse of society and now androids are hunted by androids and K (Ryan Gosling) is following clues that bring him to Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and to a secret that is going to change things.

Sometimes a show more little too clever but is interesting. A very good sequel. show less

C (Indifferent).

A royal in hiding gets an army. They tried really hard to salvage a story or characters from the pretentious and joyless second half of Dune, but there just isn't anything there. And the harder they try, the more pretentious and joyless it becomes.

Canadian siblings learn about their mother's involvement in the Lebanese civil war

It's interesting. Rarely gripping, though. There are two stories. First, there are flashbacks to the mother's life, which is unoriginal but extremely well done. Second, there's the modern day uncovering of the mystery, which was a great concept, but it doesn't really work. Thanks to the flashbacks, we always know more than the protagonists, meaning we're not seeing it from their perspective, and their whole show more story line is rendered dramatically superfluous. There is a great story to be told here, though, if it had been done better.

Overall a pretty satisfying adaptation of the novel. I didn't agree with everything, but this is an impressive movie nonetheless. 4.5/5 stars.
