One or two of the stories were very good (including the title story), but some seemed to me to be trying too hard to be experimental and edgy (not that I mind experimental and edgy, but these, as I said, seemed forced). The final story seemed to be very good until the ending, which I realized when I got to it had been telegraphed in what seemed to me a pretty clumsy way. Oh, well. Good, sometimes interesting, stories but not great. I would give this writer another try if I came upon one of show more his other books, but I wouldn't go out of my way to look for one. show less
This book was well-written but I didn't find it particularly insightful or interesting. I got maybe halfway through before deciding that life is too short.
John Holt loved Dennison's insights about how children (we're all children) learn. So do I. Self-directed learning is ideal.
