An interesting series of poems about life as a woman. She captures all the angst and despair of a life lived in the service of another person, even when you are educated and intelligent, and might want to do something to "make a name" rather than just waiting on him while he "makes a name". In addition, she writes about the anger and pain of living with and loving an alcoholic with gritty details that you might not think are appropriate in poetry, but it adds power to the story. A quick show more read, and one that is thought provoking. show less
A Finnish-Swedish family is formed and then pulled apart due to war, personalities, and manic obsessions on the husband's part. The author is the great granddaughter of this couple, and writes about the family history with a deft, caring hand. I think the book is important as a document about early 20th century in Finland and Sweden, especially when it comes to public education and the role of women. The thing I liked the best were the descriptions of the strong, creative women that inhabits show more this family... An enjoyable read! (The book is in Swedish) show less

Once again "in just a few short pages", Märta Tikkanen describes the difficulty in relationships between men and women (or should I write "between women and men"?).
