This book provides an interesting look at Eastern Europe during the Cold War. There is some historical background for context. The Cold War ended differently for each country, from benign to violent in the case of Romania. Also very enlightening was how dilapitated these countries had become under Communist rule and the heavy hand of the Soviet Union. Manufacturing had become so shoddy, they were unable to sell their products to each other, much less the West.
The downside to the book (at show more least this edition) is that it was written so soon after the Wall came down that it ends rather abruptly. show less
