Phew!
Takes some time to get your breath back after this one. The action is non-stop, building to a graphically described climax taking place in the middle of a devastating natural disaster.
I love the whole Iniquus series. The characters all have such a sense of honour and commitment. The author doesn’t gloss over the awful situations that have coloured their past and present but shows how they grow through them. It’s inspiring. And the dogs are heroes too!
Great narration from Teddy show more Hamilton.
A series to keep revisiting. show less

Initially I didn’t think this was going to grab me but I became invested with the characters after a couple of chapters. There was a different dynamic. Although the main male character is FBI rather than an Iniquus operator, he had, like them, been in special forces before retiring from the military, but there was still a different vibe to this novel.
The main female character, Avery, is a Romance editor which makes for some very interesting discussions between characters about editing show more techniques and novel structuring. I always enjoy discovering something new about different places or professions when I am reading.
The build up of tension was very well written. As with so many of Fiona Quinn’s books i needed to take a break part way through (though I did finish the book in a day). show less

Loved the dog!!! Dani? Not so much…Trip? Typical muscle bound hero, but okay. You can like him for longer periods of time if you look at his picture on the cover occasionally :) Everything about the dogs and how attached the handlers were to them was interesting and simply....outstanding. To the handlers their dogs were literally life and death and losing them was as bad as losing a family member. The story itself had a tendency to drag on in parts and in others it held my interest even show more when Dani and Tripp were admiring one another and then continue to argue about whose fault it was they were stuck in a blizzard in a less than perfect cabin in the middle of nowhere Oregon. To his credit, Valor…the dog never uttered a discouraging word...never blamed the two legged disasters and was even willing to share his warm fire. Good dog! show less
This is a well written, multi-faceted story that brings us action, suspense, mystery, romance, and family drama, all with a paranormal undercurrent. The author certainly has a gift for storytelling. I felt like I was there in the midst of the action, breathing their air and feeling their emotions.
The plot moves at a steady pace, building momentum as we near the climax. Quinn tackles the topic of stalkers, showing us how absolute the effects can be on the victim's life. Sadly, most stalker show more victims do not have the resources afforded to our heroine.
The characters are well developed and unique. While I really liked Lexi, she was also my stumbling point. She is simply too perfect. At just 20-years-old, she is a fabulous cook, a superior fighter, can out shoot most anyone, performs magic tricks with ease, is a beautiful and petite size 2, can put puzzle pieces together to solve most any crime, and all this without using her additional, paranormal skills. She felt, at times, more superhero than human. Also, I found certain issues with her marriage too convenient and not quite convincing. I don't want to give details here, so I'll just say that the true romance would have worked better on its own.
Aside from my grumbling, this story absolutely held my interest. I'm looking forward to reading the next in this series. show less
