What a great retelling of the Disney story Finding Nemo. I loved that they introduced the characters and explained about them before beginning the story. The illustrations were based on the Disney movie, not a traditional Manga illustrations, but the book was written in the Manga style (reading from the back). Children will enjoy this story, and if they never saw the original movie, this will give them an introduction to the characters before they go and watch the sequel "Finding show more Dory".

Marlin is an overprotective father with a son named Nemo. Nemo ends up getting captured and put in a fish tank in a dentist's office. Marlin heads off to find his son and after losing his wife, nothing will stop him from finding Nemo. He's joined on his journey by Dory, a blue tang fish who has short term memory problem, along with many other memorable characters along the way. This book teaches about friendship, loyalty, perseverence, and trust.

The illustrations are wonderful but unfortunately, they are in black and white. They could have been spectacular with colour added to them. The book is still great with the illustrations in B & W.

This oversized volume (24 cm x 29 cm) features reproductions of over 300 pieces of concept art, including storyboards, sketches, sculpts, character studies, lighting studies and more. Quotations from the film crew offer additional insights into the filmmaking process. Yet while children who have enjoyed Ratatouille show more might be drawn to this highly visual book, it does not seem to have been designed for those children. It’s in-depth discussions of the decisions that went into modeling each character and the research that went into designing each set instead mean that this book is targeted for budding animators or filmmakers. Libraries seeking Ratatouille-inspired materials for young children may wish to look elsewhere. However, for librarians seeking materials to enhance a film studies collection, this book would be an excellent addition. Recommended for readers age 12 and up. show less

Another entry in the Read Along series, this one is an abridged retelling of the story from the original Cars movie. Lightning McQueen is an ambitious new race car, determined to win the ultimate of all races. When he accidentally gets trapped in the small town of Radiator Springs, he will have to reassess his priorities. As all of these books are just basic retellings of movies or shows in the Disney franchise, they are not superior writing. The point is just to convey the story in words. show more Much of the dialogue is copied from the movie, and the illustrations are from the art team but not the actual movie. Again, the wonder of these books is the combination of book and CD. My daughters love listening to stories, but are also at the age where they need to see and appreciate printed stories as well. Also, the illustrations help keep them focused on listening. The book is like a stepping stone from read alouds to reading alone. I wish more companies published early reader books in this combination. show less
