This is a fun (as opposed to academic) history of Australia in the 20th century.
It takes the form of some 7 chapters, each commencing with a short essay as to that chapters overarching topic (including history, war, Arts & enteratainment, crime, lifestyle, sport, transport) followed by many photographs, newspaper clips, posters etc, many of which are accompanied with a detailed commentary.
First published in 2013, the copy I read was an edition published in 2024. It is unclear whether there show more has been any significant update or revisions.
There was not a lot that was completely new to me (someone born early in the second half of the century in question) but it was nonetheless a fun , interesting and quick read/scan.
I expect it may also be interesting for younger readers who have an interest in the history of Australia or the world in which their parents and grandparents lived through.

This book needed a final edit. It has many typos and Page 241 has sentences repeated. Very repetitive with different players going over the same games and saying similar things. Learned a lot about players I grew up watching. Souths had many issues in their Glory Days. The players were tougher back then.
This story was very disturbing. It shows how clumsy the investigating process for solving crimes used to be in the 1960s.It also claims that the mother of one of the victims has passed away but is still alive today. It also depicts the time to be very innocent and carefree but the predators were still there!
has all the right stuff for a rugby fan - needs more photos - you knw how hard it is to read if you are a rugby player - seriously a good bit of history about the evolution and the teams. good reference book
