No plot, lots of characters, very little writing. I liked this book, it was a titillation for a movie addict like myself. It makes me want to make a list of all the movies that were nominated each year and watch them to see what I think of the winners. There is also a nice explanation of how the Academy came to be and what they do. All of this, of course is history, since the book ends in the year 1974. The black and white photos are large and fun to look at, including one of each winner in show more their movie and usually one of them receiving their award. Nice trivia. show less
Grabbed this as I walked past a display at the library; not sure why, to be honest, as I've only ever watched one Oscars ceremony in my life and it was just last year. It was somehow less interesting than I thought it'd be, but maybe I was just turned off by being unable to lift the book off the table while I was reading it. Damn book weighs more than my coffee table.
75 Years of the Oscar: The Official History of the Academy Awards is an expanded official history of the Academy Awards authored by the well-known columnist and film critic Robert Osborne in association with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (2005). This outstanding reference book begins with a broad-spectrum historical overview of the Academy and its undertakings, developments, and proceedings that occurred during each decade since it has been in existence. Covering a show more year-by-year description of each ceremony, Osborne provides an all-inclusive listing of the nominees and winners in every Oscar category. This particular book is the most complete, full, and all-inclusive book on the subject of the Academy Awards that has ever been published. It is an ideal source for scholars and is unsurpassed in its design, accuracy, and magnitude. show less
Tradeback edition consisting of excerpts from Robert Osborne's book "Academy Awards Illustrated". Osborne issued several revisions of this volume. I have identified copyrights of 1969, 1971, 1972 and 1980; there are probably others as well.
