An astute telling of the ordinary events that make up our lives. The writing is told so compellingly and with such insight, that one wonders, "How could I miss the significance of this in my own life". Other reviewers have nailed it by writing that Carol had "...an exceptional talent for uncovering the extraordinary in the mundane, and the dramatic in the domestic."
This is a collection of very well and less well known Canadian women. Recollections and experiences, lessons learned and heart-felt tales. They are very well categorised in a series of themes such as A Clarity of Vision, A Kind of Benediction, etc. The quality is very uneven. Surprisingly the more known writers wrote, in my opinion, the least interesting stories, but there are several jewels that are well worth reading.
This is a great collection of essays by Canadian women, but I think I preferred Dropped Threads 2 a bit more. Some of the essays in this collection are funny, some sad, some shocking, and some are a bit boring, but overall, it is a wonderful read.
I really enjoyed volume. this was good too.
