Found this author to be lacking in talent. His "big reveal" was way too obvious from the first part of the book making his main character look too stupid not to be able to see it. Top that off with being too overly descriptive and dialogue which didn't ring true and you have a mess of a book. Oddly, several times the author threw in some right leaning political jabs which were "off-putting", since no character had been described as having those views. Needless to say, I want be reading show more another "Streeter" novel. show less
Other Streeter thrillers are better than this one. "A Long Reach" is too wordy; the characters talk and talk and talk. The three-stranded plot is overly complex, unpleasant and not believable. I could not finish it.

I received a review copy of "A Long Reach: A Streeter Thriller" by Michael Stone (Brash) through NetGalley.com. It was originally published in 1997 by Viking under the same title.
Streeter is a big bully of a detective/bounty hunter in Denver, Colorado. This story introduces him and his idiosyncrasies. He shares many of the characteristics of Doolittle's Tom Bethany. The story itself wasn't my favorite but I think this Streeter guy has some better stories in his future and I plan to keep an eye out for his adventures.
"Totally Dead" is one of the older detective novels that Brash Books is reissuing in paper and ebook. It was originally published in 1999. No one has cell phones but otherwise the story does not feel dated, except perhaps in its pacing, which seems a bit leisurely. It's a readable book but it won't keep you up all night.

Mr. Stone's protagonist, (No First Name) Streeter is one of those stoic private investigators that I generally like, but somehow in this book I did not find him as show more interesting as some of the other characters. I especially liked old Alphonse Lucci, the restaurant owner who is being leaned on by the bad guys. If you like the Streeter series, you should read this #4.
