A book written by a Spanish Art scholar whose stated intent was to bridge the gap between laymen and scholars and provide an example of how events in his own life helped him understand art history. While the book is good at detailing his own life, (indeed for a 150 page book maybe a little to in depth) he has a hard time connecting with the average lay reader. At the very beginning he delves into different modes of thought without explaining them properly. While a good book for a scholar, it show more really doesn't achieve his stated intent of reaching out to average readers. Unless you're really into Art History this book isn't for you. show less
i got this book because i twice tried to see this exhibit at the frick in nyc but you had to buy tickets for a later time which didn't suit me. the oil paintings were good but the lithographs were problematic for me. i didn't like their cartoonish drawing and witchy/devil subject matter.
Beautiful book, but it is falling apart. Also it has been assembled backwards. Never seen this before. No real harm but 2-page spreads print wrong.
