Un libro molto bello ma anche molto duro che ti mette a confronto con la vecchiaia, la decadenza fisica, la malattia, la solitudine e lo sradicamento dalle abitudini consolidate.
Diviso in tre parti, la prima racconta come un ictus costringa il protagonista al ricovero presso una struttura per anziani e ripercorre la sua vita passata, le gioie e i dolori che lo hanno segnato.
Una prima parte difficile, quasi spietata, ma che si rivela essere il preludio a qualcosa di molto diverso che prende show more il via con la conoscenza di Elena, la persona che segnerà per Tommaso una svolta e che caratterizza tutta la seconda parte. La terza è lasciata alla voce di Stefano, il fisioterapista, l’ultimo vero amico di Tommaso ed anche colui che ci racconta l’ultima parte di questa storia.

Pietro Rinaldi has decided to kill himself. Most people would do so due to poverty, sickness, or just plain ol' depression. Mr. Rinaldi however, has decided to end his life precisely because he's not experiencing any of the above. The perfect ending to the 80 year period he's spent among the living, if he may say so.

Now... if only the Universe would be kind enough to leave him be. First, he gets interrupted by some busybody Jehova's Witnesses, then he has to babysit his teenaged nephew, only show more to suddenly find himself the boy's only relative. But before you think things get too predictable, our intrepid hero finds a convenient loophole, to allow him to proceed with his suicidal plans.

In theory, every single sentence from the description above should have made me adore the book. There's obviously humor to be had, plenty of sarcasm, and all the self-deprecating monologue you would ever want. And then some.

...which is precisely what ruined the experience for me. I absolutely hated everything about the cantankerous old man: his obnoxious remarks about every single person he met, his superiority complex when it came to his writing, his complete disregard for the rest of the world. All his little nitpicky remarks bothered me so much, that even when I could clearly see the beginnings of a change in his perception, I just didn't care.

Does this make me guilty of the exact crimes I've just accused Mr. Rinaldi? So be it. 143 pages in two weeks has just about reached the limit of my patience. Dropped, half-way through.

Seeing everyone else and their pet chihuahua rave about this does make me feel bad. Even moreso when I recall how excited I was to start reading it. Too bad it didn't work out.

Affascinante, forse è la parola più adatta per definire questa storia che mi è piaciuta moltissimo.
La mente di un ottantenne nel corpo di un ventenne e tutto quello che lo circonda inevitabilmente cambia prospettiva.
Ben scritto e soprattutto molto coinvolgente, un libro che sicuramente non può lasciare indifferenti.
Riletto ad anni di distanza dalla prima volta e nonostante tutta la vicenda mi fosse rimasta chiaramente scolpita in testa, non posso che confermare nuovamente il più che show more positivo giudizio.
Un libro che mi è piaciuto tantissimo e che è riuscito a risvegliare nuovamente in me molti interrogativi che, in parte, non troveranno mai una risposta ma che continuano comunque a sedurre la mia mente. show less

Ogni tanto è bene concedersi una lettura idiota. Questa lo è. Divertente abbastanza da farsi leggere, pur essendo decisamente idiota e prevedibile.
Però se siete maschi orgogliosamente etero, non sopportate i vegani e animalisti estremi, non vi piacciono i sinistrorsi che fanno del loro anticonformismo un conformismo, trovate patetici i no-global, se trovate insopportabili quelli che credono nei segni zodiacali e coloro che si professano alternativi praticando robe tipo lo zen e pratiche show more strane, ebbene, questo libriccino vi farà sorridere di gusto. show less
