Pretty good post-apocalypse yarn, fast-paced, some nice writing (the sex scenes are cringe-worthy), and an open ending. It may be that I'm being a little hard on it because I paid too much to get it.
Meanders quite a bit and Alter is constantly referring to other books - sort of a chance to have everyone know what he (or his character) thinks about a lot of literature. But toward the end, it really kicks into overdrive and redeems itself.
Tremendous atmosphere makes this a must-read. Ignore the overwrought text on the back cover - it is very misleading about the text as a whole.
