El libro cubre el desarollo del zen a través de la vida y enseñanzas de los distintos maestros desde China hasta Japón. Aunque la maquetación es bonita, confunde en ocasiones los nombres de los maestros, que no corresponden a su transliteración. Es un libro destilado, con pocos fragmentos originales. Puede ser útil para aportar algun nuevo punto de vista o para refrescar conocimientos, pero se queda un poco corto.
