'Trials of Theology' is a series of excerpts and essays for students of theology. Contrary to the modern educational system where theology has been severed from biblical studies and other areas of specialization, theology in the title refers to the general discipline of working with the truths of God. Thus this book is for all students in modern seminary environments, whether they are systematicians, historians, biblical scholars, or ethical theorists. Probably the most beneficial section is show more part one which contains excerpts from Augustine, Luther, Spurgeon, Warfield, Bonhoeffer, and C.S. Lewis. There words are still as stimulating and relevant as ever before. The modern essays are divided between the specific fields mentioned above written by modern evangelical scholars within those fields. These essays are not as relevant to all as the voices of the past. But they still provide excellent advice for those who intend and are in academic studies. This book is a need, especially for those seminarians who are isolated. show less
