If you wish to know what it was like to live in Nazi Germany before the War, here is Smith's first hand account. He was a newspaper correspondent in Germany in the period before the War. He describes the changes made to German society by Hitler's henchmen. The book was published in 1942 when the outcome of the War was still in doubt. The title comes from the his escape from Germany literally on the last train to make it to the border after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and before Berlin show more declared war on the USA. show less
