Respect for Nature: a Theory of Environmental Ethics by Paul W. Taylor

A good discussion of the ethical dynamic of protecting nature and whether animals have any rights. The book is a little too abstruse, with the author indulging in the dense jargon that has come to characterize modern philosophy, so it might be a bit of a slog for someone who hasn't spent any time wading through that particular morass.
