About the Author
James Sanders, an architect, is the cowriter with Ric Burns of the seven-part, fourteen-and-a-half-hour PBS series New York: A Documentary Film -- which received an Emmy Award and an Alfred I. duPont -- Columbia University Silver Baton Award -- and coauthor with Burns and Lisa Ades of its companion show more volume, New York: An Illustrated History. He has written for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair, Architectural Record, and Interiors, and has produced exhibitions on New York housing and the urban heritage of 42nd Street. Excellent companion volume to the documentary by Ric Burns, this work provides a reasonable cross-section of pictures and lots of detailed text. My only reservation is that it could have provided more photographs. However, it is very long, so perhaps they sacrificed photos to writing.
