I wanted to like this memoir more than I did, especially for children. It comes across as bitter, and while that may be a legitimate feeling, it required a lot of explanation to provide necessary context. Bronwyn Bancroft's illustrations are as fantastic as ever.
Important for its cultural intervention but not artistically innovative.
The author recounts her childhood on Stradbroke Island, off the Australian coast.
It's fine, I guess, and the stories are somewhat interesting, but it can get a bit preachy and historically I don't respond well to that sort of thing. *shudders*

Australia's most famous Aboriginal writer offers reminiscences of her childhood on Stradboke Island off the Queensland coast, communicating her pride in her heritage, and presents a collection of traditional Aboriginal folklore.
