The Cambridge Companion to Shakespearean Comedy (Cambridge Companions to Literature) by Alexander Leggatt
A solid addition to Cambridge's very reliable nine book series. Unlike the History and Tragedy guides, this doesn't break things down by play, which is a bit of a shame. But on the other hand, since the comedies are less important individually, it's good to see a more comprehensive tone with each essay incorporating a number of plays depending on what it talks about. The book covers many aspects of Shakespeare's comedies and - although, again, it probably won't be all that useful unless show more you're either studying it or are a die-hard fan - is a worthy addition to basic Shakespearean criticism. show less
