Let's make one thing clear: Dressing dogs up as people is just creepy.
But this Wegman book got to me. See, it's about a dog named Chip. Chip is a Weimaraner dressed up as a boy. A boy who wants a dog. But Chip's parents won't let him get one (his mom, a blonde be-wigged "cat person", even sports tacky cat-lover fashions). Oh, and he has a stuffed dog toy that's a Weimaraner.
But see, then one night the dog, who's dressed as a person, has a dream that he's a dog. And when he wakes up, he show more realizes, "I don't need a dog, I am a dog."
So. What do you think? Am I a person reading about a Weimaraner, or a Weimaraner reading about a person? show less

I loved this book because of the photographs and the educational story. The photographs in this book are of Weimaraner's dressed up as humans. It gives the book a funny twist and makes the dogs have a human persona. This is very unique. I also like how the author incorporates an educational aspect about farms into the story. Overall, the purpose is to inform.
If you don't remember Wegman's work (pre photoshopping), look carefully at the cover. You have to be open to that gimmick to appreciate this. If it does make you giggle, you'll probably like the story, with its creative title page and its sly satire of other 'day on the farm' books, better than I did. I like Wegman's technique better here than I did back in the day on his stationery; I'll have to surf google a bit for more.

Ok, did the google. Found that there's more going on than show more commercial illustration, and some pieces do support the claim that the man is first an artist. Rating now 3.5 stars. show less

William Wegman is a professional photographer who specializes in animals. Puppies showcases his photos of his pet weimeraners, both puppies and adults. Many show the animals in human costumes and in silly poses (posed on chairs, in vases, or being tossed into the air); others show them doing typical dog behaviors. The photos are of fine quality, and many readers will find the poses "cute". However, readers who prefer their dogs as dogs, not as miniature humans, will be less than enchanted. show more The book contains explanatory text, and each of the photos bears a caption (contrary to the other LT review). show less
