Heartbreaking book about torture inflected on POW's in the Hanoi Hilton in Vietnam. The ways in which Risner was able to survive by holding on to his religious faith makes this book a true inspiration. Risner was a Jet fighter Ace and was shot down over Vietnam where he was a seven year prisoner subject to varying degrees of daily torture. This book is graphic in the accuracy of his barbaric treatment. Still worth reading as is it a historical moment in American history when the American show more government and Secretary of State were taking their time to resolve the POW situation. show less
The real story of what went on in the prison camps in North Vietnam, it was a nightmare that required incredible endurance to survive. He describes the days of screaming or in tears, of the monotony and despair and six weeks when he was confronted by a torture he could not deal with.
The story of Robinson Risner who was a Korean war ace and was taken POW in the VIetnam war. Interesting, harrowing story.
