The courage of the Good Women and Good Men, Albigenians, now known as Cathars, was impressive, even to the Inquisitoral authorities who burned them, hundreds at a time, at the stake.
That any of their books managed to survive, newly discovered in the 1970´s, is amazing.
The key, I think, to this history is in combination with that of the earlier repressions of the Roman period, showing the historical pattern of conquest, repression, and then control of ideology in order to control show more populations. This continues in a more subtle form even today.

This is potentially a very interesting and informative book about the Cathars; it is well produced and has a wealth of information about the Cathars, their castles and the 12th and 13th centuries. However it is a poor translation from the original French version and because of this it has lost a lot of "readability". There are too many sentences where the original French construction has been retained and somewhat old fashioned or outdated english has been used; nevertheless the main history show more and facts do emerge. show less
