This was my favourite fairy tale collection when I was a child. My grandmother read this to me so many times that the book fell apart in the end, and I've just bought a new copy for sentimental reasons. The illustrations are wonderful, not the sickly sweet stuff you often find in this type of books, but funny and sometimes a bit strange images. I remember loving them as a child. The book contains 24 short fairy tales or stories.

This tall book of nursery tales is quite charming. I think it contains some of the best tales for children and the illustrations are lovely. After reading some of the previous reviews, I think that some people are confusing true fairy tales with nursery tales; these are mostly nursery tales aimed at younger children and are meant as lessons for life. Someone commented that they were surprised that this book was reprinted since the stories are "pretty antiquated." (I have the original print). show more I found this amusing since the original printing is 1944, and aren't most fairy tales and nursery tales "antiquated?" It's a lovely book and any child would appreciate having it read to them or reading it themselves. show less

This is one of the books I grew up with. Every page has a memory, and some of them were marked (unfortunately) with coloring pens. All the more memorable, I suppose! This book has a lot of charm, not only because it's old, but because it contains some of the oldest and most charming Fairy Tales ever!

This book includes many of the classic fairy tales, as well as a variety of fables, etc. The illustrations are kind of weird and ugly, but the selection is nice because it includes a lot of stories you've probably heard but won't necessarily find in most anthologies, such as "The Lion and the Mouse" and "The Pot that would not stop boiling." I have my mother's copy, and I admit that I'm a little surprised they reprinted it, because it's pretty antiquated.
