I really like the concept: verse from the Bible (a King James version) illustrated with Renaissance paintings from the collection of Chicago's Art Institute. However, the book proves that not all Renaissance painters were equal, and there is a reason why some are more famous. The paintings include 2 of the ugliest depictions of Mary I have ever seen.
This is a reasonable description with photos of major pieces in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
